The Bell Jar
Today I went to the library to learn more about Sylvia Plath. All the books I wanted, the non-fiction ones, were checked out. So I ended up checking out "The Bell Jar". I am finding it fascinating reading. She is considered a great American author.
The book appears to be autobiographical. I'm about half way through the book. Sylvia Plath's life is rather grim. The Bell Jar is about a young girl going to New York city and she wants to be a writer.
There's an illustration about a fig tree that suits me to a T. She describes each opportunity in her life as a fig. She is sitting in the crotch of the tree, and she can't decide which fig to choose. While she's going back and forth with her decision, all the figs wither up and die.

Sylvia Plath
I couldn't sleep; so, I watched some cable tv. Gwyneth Paltrow was playing in a movie called, "Sylvia". The tone of the movie was dark, but her character was a writer, and I generally like Paltrow's work. Nothing better was on, so I watched.
It ended up being a dark movie indeed. At the end I realized that it was based on a true story.
The Sylvia in the film was Sylvia Plath, a writer and poet. In the movie, Sylvia mentioned that she was writing a book called "The Bell Jar". I had heard of that book. I think it was on a recommended reading list at one time, but I had never read it.
I looked up her name on Google, but the stuff I found on the Net had been taken over by spam, and I didn't feel like wading through the muck.
