Nightmare on DNS Street

I am so fed up that I can barely stand it.  This DNS IP e-mail-not-working situation is driving me nuts.  You know how much I love driving.  Technology can get you there twice as fast.

So, what am I mad about now?  I have been recounting this situation in Perils of Pamela, but what happened today really takes the cake.  I thought I had the problem resolved.  I went to register.com and changed the domain name server from

Delete ns1.archrival.net.
Delete ns2.archrival.net.
to
Add ns1.archrival.net
Add ns2.archrival.net

No, there is no typo.  The two pair of domain name servers are the same --exactly the same.  I changed it, but I didn't change it.  Apparently the IP addresses did not update at my domain host when the Rival Pro servers moved cross country.  So the new IPs did not work with the domain name servers.  If you think I understand this, think again.

I know.  This all sounds like a bunch of gobbly gook.  I have gained more knowledge about this than I ever wanted to know, but the learning part is okay.  Support at RivalPro has been endlessly patient while I battle all these errors.

What makes me mad is that every time I come up with a work-around then something else goes wrong.

For instance, Yahoo Groups had been bouncing all my pamelajoy.com addresses.  I believe Yahoo's computer did this because it was not using the pamelajoy.com names (the DNS), they were using the old IP numbers.  Because the IP numbers were wrong, Yahoo couldn't find any MX or A records for pamelajoy.com.

Now I do not know why the IP numbers were wrong.  That was something that register.com should have updated.  But how do I, little old one of me in Fairbanks, Alaska, get a big company like register to update their numbers?  I would not even know where to start!

I created a successful solution for my bouncing message problem by signing up for the groups again with alaskapam.com addresses.  I couldn't just add myself because I was no longer a member of the groups.  I had an invalid e-mail address!  Then I went to my Yahoo domain console and forwarded my alaskapam.com addresses to pamelajoy.com.

If I didn't direct the groups addresses to pamelajoy.com, then the alaskapam.com addresses went through spamcop to be virus checked.  I was having to okay the messages one at a time and add them to my whitelist because all Yahoo Groups messages are blocked as spam.

Before the above change could propagate, that means take effect, Yahoo decides to update something in their system.  Apparently that caused them to check the IP again.

When I made the above change from the same to the same, it did trigger register.com to update their IP numbers.  According to a who-is lookup, the IP numbers are indeed correct now.  But do you think Yahoo has updated yet?  Apparently not, because now they are bouncing all my messages again!

Sheesh!  I have had enough.  I am about ready to forget all this Internet stuff and move to Mexico.
