how's the software?
In answer to your question, "how's the software?", Nick, I've had an uproariously aggravating couple of months.
I met Nick at Sam's, and he offered me his copy of CD Creator to replace the one that I'd lost. I had just installed a new motherboard and all the fixin's on my computer. That's why I needed a CD burner program. Somehow the one that came with my burner had gotten lost in the shuttling back and forth to Computer Smith.
Shortly after he gave me the Easy CD Creator 4 CD, I ran scandisk and defrag in preparation for installing Works Suite which I had purchased when I had my computer hardware installed. I wanted to install it before any other program.
Next, I tried downloading photos from my camera using the USB port on the front of my new case. Nothing happened. I reinstalled the camera software. Still nothing. The whole reason I needed a CD burner program was to back up my photos. Now how am I suppose to get the jpegs from my camera to the CD?
Then it occurred to me that I should try one of the USB ports on the back of the tower. I plugged in the cord, and I had Drive H. Nothing had been wrong with the program installation or the camera. I downloaded my photos onto my harddrive.
However, I wanted the USB ports fixed before the warranty ran out on the computer parts. Everything was covered for 30 days. So I took the computer down to Computer Smith, and she told me that the ports in the front were not going to work. (I forget the technical reason. All I know is it's broke.) So she added four more new ones in the back. Well, drat! That's why I got the new case, so I could have USB ports in the front. The turnaround for installing the new USB ports was four days.
A short time later, my modem quit. I had work to do on the computer; so, it was about a week before I took the tower down to be fixed. They were busy; so, another couple of days past before they could fix it.
By the time I picked up my computer, I had a backlog of work to do again. No time for installing new software and working out the bugs. When I got caught up with my e-mail, I decided to install the CD. Something really quirky was going on, and at first I didn't recognize the problem. I would try to load the CD, but Windows acted like I didn't have any CD drives.
I have two harddrives and two partitions on one of them, a floppy drive, and a zip drive; so, I had an A, B, C, D, and G. I didn't notice that CD Drives E and F were missing.
Last night, I finally tried installing the CD he gave me. When the startup loaded, a popup windowed alerted me:
Easy CD Creator 4
Easy CD Creator 4 has a known compatibility issue with this version of Windows. For an update that is compatible with this version of Windows, contact Roxio, Inc.
Now I have a certain amount of pressure to make a CD. I've filled all my Smart Media cards for my camera, and I don't like to delete the photos from the card until after I have them burned to a CD. So I went ahead and installed Nero 6.
Thanks, Nick, for the program. Do you want it back?
Installing CD Software
I am notoriously slow at installing software on my computer because every time I do, without fail, I have a problem with it. Something quirky is going on right now with Internet Explorer. I've been babysitting my grandson a lot lately, and I can't concentrate on computer stuff while he is here.
