Here I sit on pins and needles wondering what is going to happen tonight or tomorrow with my RedRival website.
The support forums are fabulous. I wish I'd discovered this resource sooner. I definitely will use their help now. In the beginning when I read the forums, I was overwhelmed with all the new information. Now that I have a little pagemaking experience, the discussions make sense to me.
Over the weekend, we had the group up from Whitehorse for two days. We assembled at the high school. A lot of friends came up from Anchorage, too. I didn't get to do as much as I'd like because I was feeling poorly.
On the way home yesterday, Keith was eating a Mentos and broke a tooth. He took off work today and got it fixed. I need to go to the dentist, too. So who do I call first, the dentist or the doctor?

Matt has been very helpful to me. He's been operating RedRival on a shoestring. I'm sure he is heartbroken that his dream has been dashed to pieces.
So...... I figured that I would transition to the new RivalPro for three months. I will squeeze every bit of knowledge out of Matt that I can.
If the service is not what I need or want, then I'll move to another server.
As soon as they turn on FTP for me, I can FTP my website back to there. I'm not going to upload every page one at a time (like I would have to with the free site). I don't regret that I changed every page to a forward to pamelajoy.com. If it doesn't work out, I'll be glad I did that.
The system admin wrote me that I get a free month so I'll have four months to decide.
Those people who have been paying to be hosted at RedRival say their service has been excellent. I don't really have any major complaints (other than the lack of notice of the shutdown).
I hate my Register.com site. I cannot make it with my background and graphics. I can only use what they provide.
Matt has told me how to change my site from Register to RivalPro. I can see that he will answer any questions that I have on the same day that I ask. So the upside looks better than the downside so far.
I figure it will cost me $21 to find out. Keith said we could afford that. ;)
The other hosts want a year in advance. I don't want to be stuck for a year with some place I don't like. Also after I have some experience with RivalPro, I think I'll be in a better position to judge what I want in a webhost.
I do feel very comfortable at RedRival, and you know how I hate change.
If it works out, there will be a new headline on Tuesday. LOL
