I need to thank all of the great people that responded to the plea for funds.

First, we had the benefit dance and auction, then the combo gun raffle. Back in August, the House Committee of the North Vernon Moose Lodge agreed with me that we should support the Josiah D Yeager Memorial Scholarship Fund.

This fund is administered by the Jennings County Community Foundation. All money placed in the fund will remain there and proceeds will by given out each year in the form of a scholarship. Relatives can not qualify for this program.

In August, the fund was $4979.00 and we decided that this fund should be doubled or evened off at $10,000.00. At the end of the Benefit Dance and Auction, the fund was $403.00 short of the desired goal.

On November 2nd, 502 letters were mailed out to Moose members and local establishments. This letter contained raffle tickets on a Remington Combo 20 gauge shotgun. The drawing for the Combo was held on Dec 2nd and the winner was Jimmie L York, a North Vernon Moose member. At this time, 101 persons on the mailing list had returned raffle tickets and donations in the amount of $1440.00. This money was distributed as follows: $437.00 cost of the raffle, $453.00 to Community Foundation, and the balance, $550.00 for other Moose Charities. Everyone that has a "YES Combo 2001" on their mailing label deserves a special pat on the back for helping to make this fund exceed $10,000.00.

I started working on this "Fund Drive" for Josiah's Memorial Scholarship Fund on August 30, 2001 (Incidentally this is my son's birthday, I am telling everyone we are the same age, 47 & 74.) At the time I started, there was $4,979.00 dollars in the fund at the Community Foundation. At the conclusion of this drive, I will update the amount.

We are having a benefit dance and auction on Sep 22nd at the Moose for Josiah's fund. Daughter Deb made me some stickers with Josiah's picture and "I donated to Josiah Yeager's Scholarship Fund". I put these on the windows of businesses that make a donation. I have placed 42 of the stickers, have over a thousand dollars in money and quite a few things for the auction. (Feeling pretty good about this program)!! The Moose Lodge referred to is "Moose Lodge #576, North Vernon, IN 47265.
