A Blonde Moment

"I'm having a blonde moment."

Have you ever heard anyone make this statement?

What is a "blonde moment"?  It's an instance when a person, usually a woman, makes an obviously silly mistake.

Can moments be categorized by the color of your hair?  A lot of men make up jokes about blondes.  Supposedly if a woman has blonde hair she is stupid, a moron, and has no common sense at all.  Are men degrading women who have blonde hair?

I'm not a blonde.  My mother calls my hair color "strawberry blonde".  That means it's not totally red, it's not completely blonde, and it's not actually brown.  My hair is golden with all three colors in it.

The color of my hair resides in the eye of the beholder.

One day I drove to town to pick up my husband.  He has to work late, but he doesn't know what time he will be getting off.  I don't want to drive home.  I don't relish sitting in the parking lot either.

I have a tote bag of projects in the car and decide to spend my time waiting at Kinko's.  My husband agrees to call me there when he returns from the outage.  It's only a five-minute drive from Kinko's to where he works.

When he finishes working, he calls Kinko's:

"Is my wife there?" he asks.

"I don't know," quips the clerk, "what does your wife look like?"

"She has long red hair."

"Nope.  Not here," answers the clerk.

My husband hangs up.  He's getting a little steamed because he hates waiting to be picked up (and I am late 9 times out of 10).

After awhile, I'm beginning to wonder, "Why hasn't he called?  I'm running out of papers to copy."

When I finish with my copying, I drive over to the parking lot of Golden Valley to wait.

"Where have you been?" my husband fumes.  "You said you'd be at Kinko's."

"I was at Kinko's," I say defensively.

"No, you weren't!  I called and the man said you weren't there," he retorts.

"I was there.  Nobody ever called me to the phone," I reply.

I drive to Kinko's.  I demand, "When did my husband call?"

The clerk says, "A man called, but he asked for a woman with long red hair."

"Well?" I say, "Why didn't you call me to the telephone?"

"You have long brown hair."

The clerk is clearly having a blond moment.
