June  in   Fairbanks

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Summer is here.  The daylight lasts all night now.  We have midnight sun ball games and foot races.  I can work all night in the garden by the light of the sun!  The chokecherry trees are in full bloom.  The last frost is past (I hope).  Everyone is busy planting their gardens and lots of flowers.
The first year we moved to our house on the hill, I didn't get my garden planted on the first of June.  I was glad I didn't when I woke up on June 6th, and the garden was blanketed with a fresh snowfall.
The real sign of summer is the tourists.  People walk the sidewalks early in the morning.  Back home where they come from it's hours later.  Who wants to waste a minute of this daylight?
The real pest of summer is the mosquito.  Some Alaskans consider the mosquito the state bird.  If I leave the garage door open very long, here they come. The high temperataure yesterday was 75 degrees.  That's a real heat wave!
The wild iris blooms in June.
