If I were to write you a letter, dear friend, this is what I'd say . . .

Joe
Today was the funeral.
On Sunday the weather was snowy and the highway was covered with slush and ice. Joe was driving his van to the meeting.
An oncoming car spun broadside into Joe's lane, and his van crashed into the passenger side of the out-of-control car. Then the van went over an embankment and struck a fence.
The fire department was the first on the scene, and Joe's wife was taken to the hospital. Apprently Joe was killed instantly.
The Friday and Saturday before the accident, I had been helping at John's apartment. He's in Denali Center. We were having a sale before his condo is listed with a realtor. I have been feeling moody and sad because John is losing his battle with cancer.
I thought the next funeral would be John's. There's always the unexpected.

Safe and Sound
Debby called and let me know that they all made it safely to Indiana.
Brendon is enjoying meeting his cousins, and Debby plans to take all the great-grandchildren to get their pictures taken together on Sunday. Then Papaw is taking the family out to dinner.
Today I helped again with John's sale. By the time I got there, most of the work was finished. So, Terri and I sat and visited.
Keith bought John's dining room table. It's round and it will fit nicely in our kitchen. I've been looking for a round table that has leaves to extend it to an oval table when we need more seating. Keith also bought some tools and a toaster. So, I didn't feel guilting buying a couple of books and one of John's hats. I was hoping to find something that would make a fitting memento of John. He wore this hat all the time. I set it on the top of my desk. The hat fits exactly with my desire to have something of John's to remember him by.

Wake-up Call
Jr. woke me up at 6 a.m. to tell me they were about an hour from Pam's grandmother's house. The snow is coming down hard, and I will worry until they make it back to Indiana. Then Terri called at 8 a.m. to ask me to help with John's sale.
First I had to take the computer to the shop to have the new harddrive installed. I hope I backed up everything that I need. The computer tech called and said the computer would need to stay there until Monday since she doesn't work on the weekend.

Shopping Trip
Today I'm going shopping for Claudine Crangle's book, Living Well with Celiac Disease. It's been on my to-do list forever, it seems. I'll have to post the list on my forehead so I won't forget. I love browsing in book stores, and I get so side-tracked. My husband does *not* like browsing, so he's usually yanking me out of the store before I finish what I came to do. Solution: Go when he's at work. LOL
We just got the news that K-Mart is closing their stores. That's really sad for Fairbanks because it is one of the most popular stores in town. So I'm going to town today to stock up on some items that I can only get at K-Mart... and then to the book store!
When you have a minute, please pop in and see what's new on this website.

Home Again
Back from vacation, and I can't believe how long it takes me to get into the routine of things. Although I unpacked right away, I still have laundry to catch up; and Keith's luggage is still strewn all over the living room furniture. Maybe it's a hint that I'm suppose to unpack it, too. His luggage is mostly filled with gifts we bought. The gifts for people at work, I believe he's already distributed. The gifts for our family are still waiting from my round tuit to arrive.
