Okay, you are a brand new editor itching to get started.  Where do you start?  Or you are thinking about applying to be an editor but you'd like to know what is involved first.

  • ODP Editing: The Quick & Dirty Guide, Or, the Top Ten ODP dos and don'ts while editing the Open Directory categories.
  • ODP Guidelines Editing Guidelines, open to the public
  • Accepted editors are allowed access to forums.  A New Editor's Forum was added a few months after I volunteered.  I recommend that new editors post here first before moving onto the other forums.
  • Tools for Editors
    • DMoz.org Open Directory Project category.
    •  When I first began editing the Directory, I felt overwhelmed with the enormous amount of information available to editors.  Any question can probably be answered by doing research.  Gradually, I've added each tool.  My favorite addition so far are the Bookmarklets.
    • Genesis of the Open Directory Project, a slide presentation presented by Rich Skrenta.
  • Editor:  Pamela Joy

O D P  is an abbreviation for Open Directory Project  and is the same as dmoz.org.
These three terms are used interchangeably as far as I can tell.
