Bloggers first to report
Bloggers rush to post eyewitness accounts of the bomb blasts in London.
Now people who experience an event can be the first ones to report about it. No longer do people have to wait for the newspaper or television stations to see photos of current events.

I Love Blogging
Heh, heh, heh... if there's one thing I do well, it's talk. THat seems to translate well to the Internet where I can chatter endlessly whether anyone is listening or not. However, I do find it easier to blog when I picture that I am talking to someone.
I first started using Blogger to update my what's new page. It made it so much easier to blog it than to redo a page. I use it for my what's new page and my index.html page.
Then a friend of mine had Internet but couldnt' figure out how to set up her e-mail account. So I started the Dear Friends blog so that I could write to her and she could read it online (eventually we got her set up with Hotmail, but the Dear Friend blog remains... although I haven't been too consistent writing in it since...)
The Perils of Pamela blog started when I was trying to explain to the repair shop what was wrong with my computer. I kept a log of the problems and they could print them off when I took my computer to the shop. It reminded me of the Perils of Pauline... thus the name.
Now when I see a graphic design set that I just HAVE to have.... I start a new blog. That's where Blog News came in. I thought the country graphics were so cute, and the title said "Welcome to my Blog". This blog is woefully out of date. I haven't converted it from shtml to php yet, but it is on my to do list. I intend to use this blog to talk about blogging in general and my reaction to it. I love blogging.
I was going to buy the blognews domain, but by the time I made up my mind to do it, it wasn't available anymore.
So I bought blogalaska.com instead.
I have actually made a blog for each month of the year where I intend to talk about the weather in Alaska each month (a question I get asked a lot), and then have photos of the area during that month. Why 12 blogs? Well, I want the graphics of each month to match my Fairbanks diary entries. For example, compare:
http://pamelajoy.com/m06jun.php
and
http://pamelajoy.com/alaska/fairbanks/m06jun/
When I finish the month project, I intend to tie it in with BlogAlaska. I did happen to make the graphics on the June blog. I made them when I was using a 480 X 680 resolution... and at the time I didn't know how to not make it repeat... so it looks rather busy to me. I'll change it someday maybe when I get caught up with all my other projects!
I like using blogs to add content to my site... which now has well over 1200 pages as a result. It makes it easier to update and to move the content to a different server when I needed to.

Literary Chicks
I followed a link from a writer's website to the Literary Chicks weblog. The design is catchy, a creation of Weblog Design, and the content is very entertaining. Three literary chicks contribute to the weblog, Michelle Cunnah, Alesia Holliday, and Lani Diane Rich.

Ooops!
After firing off a couple of irritated-sounding posts to Blogger Support, I found that my complaints weren't warranted. One thing I noticed in the new Blogger Profile was a link that led me to answers to my complaints. So sheepishly I sent an apology. But I'm still not thrilled about all the changes.

New Blogger Format
I've been using Blogger.com for a couple of years now. And today I come to work, and look, the whole thing has changed. Maybe it's because I'm not a big fan of change, but I don't like it. Everything looks unfamiliar. Features that I liked are gone. I have to go through a bunch of menus to get where I want to go. My blogs are no longer in alphabetical order. I can't go from one blog to another without going through the dashboard menu. Whine. Whine. Whine.

What is Atom?
If you want to make your blog available via a "syndicated feed", then Atom is worth looking into. It grew out of an experimental Application Programming Interface for Blogger. Atom is a "universal format for personal content publishing built on a platform that is very extensible" (XML).
When you activate Atom syndication, Blogger automatically generates a machine-readable version of your blog that can be picked up and displayed in a variety of ways, including newsreaders, web sites and handheld devices.
If you are a web developer, you may be interested in creating applications based on Atom. Visit AtomEnabled.org to find out more.

Plugging along...
Until my webhost space is increased, I will continue to update this blog while I have something to delete. *grin*

Where are the blog updates?
What has happened to the blog updates? The problem is that I've used up my 50MB allotment on my webhost. If I had all the conversions done --from html and shtml to PHP-- I would probably have enough space. At this point, every time I add something, I have to delete something first. If I post to a blog without deleting something, then I get a publishing error. Oh, brother! It's enough to give up computing and go make cookies.

Free Features for Everyone
In case you missed it: Free Features for Everyone Good news, folks! The feature wagon just arrived and dropped off a host of bloggity goodness at rock-bottom prices. And we're passing the savings on to you! That is, we're rolling in a bunch of features that will give you more powerful and flexible publishing power (for free). Want to know what's included?

I received a very nice note from Ev (the head guy for Blogger) explaining that everyone would be receiving the same features that I got by purchasing Blogger Pro. Now these features are free for everybody. So that's one bill I won't have anymore. :) I will never regret purchasing my Pro subscription. The features are wonderful, and I'm glad that everyone will have a chance to use them now. (~waves to Janie~)

Blog Updates
An entire list of my blogs is under the heading "My Blogs" on this page. If you are a regular reader of my blogs, you may want to know that I don't always post a blog update in the What's New? section.
So if you want the latest news from our house, then check the blogs more often. I have updated several of them this week. I intend to announce that in the What's New? but right now I have to get ready to go downtown. We have some exciting news at our house.

Blogger's New Format
Wow! My blogs at blogger.com have been migrated to the new system. I like it a lot. Although I understood the old system, the new one is more intuitive. Now when I recommend Blogger to someone, they will be able to manage it much easier.

Oh! My Goodness!
Dave Barry has a blog! At first I didn't believe it. I figured it was some sort of flim flam job. But you can't mistake that humour. It's Dave Barry all the way. He now has a newer blog on Blogspot. If I hadn't been updating my Link-a-Dink-a-Do, I never would have noticed it. If Blogger Pro wasn't updating their site, I wouldn't have been at the regular Blogger page where I saw it announced!

If I wasn't so far behind reading my ITWorld subscription, I would have seen this news sooner.

Where I Have Been
Where have I been? Did you miss me? We snuck out of Fairbanks and soaked up some warm California sun. More in the Dear Friends weblog.
