Rainy Days
The past few days have been rainy, but I am not complaining. We need the moisture to green everything and to prevent a repeat of last summer's wildfires. The sun doesn't set until after 11 p.m. now.

The high temperature today was 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Even at 9 p.m., it was still 70 degrees. Todd and I went downtown this evening. I wore a sweater over my light, short-sleeved blouse, but I could have easily left it at home. The average temperature for this day is 55 degrees.
"The Division of Forestry in Fairbanks categorized the fire danger as very high Sunday and issued a suspension on burn permits for the day, but that didn't stop a barrage of fire reports from around the area." Quoted from the Fairbanks Daily News Miner
The weather has been amazing this month. A record high temperature of 70 degrees was reached today eclipsing the former high of 68 set in 1961. Temperatures are running about 10 degrees higher than normal, and greenup is a week ahead of schedule because of the warm spell in April. The downside of all this beautiful weather is that the humidity is low, the woods are drying out, and the fire danger is high. I hope we don't have another season like last year's record setting wildfires.
Children from the local elementary schools are visiting Creamer's Field to see the geese. There is a walking trail around the refuge with signs describing the different kinds of water fowl that land there for a brief rest before continuing north.

The low temperature for the month was 31 degrees F on the 8th, the only day with a low below freezing, and the high was on the 30th at 73 degrees F." Quoted from the Alaska Climate Research Center.
"The average temperature in Fairbanks for May was 47.2 degrees F, which was 1.6 degrees below normal. The low for the month of 27 degrees F was reported on the 17th, and the high of 74 degrees F was observed on the 31st.
