Tanana Breakup

The ice went out on the Tanana River at Nenana at 12:01 p.m. AST (1:01 p.m. ADT). Most of the rivers are moving along nicely, although an ice jam caused flooding at Salcha.

When It's Springtime in Alaska

The average temperature in Fairbanks this April was above freezing at 33F, which was just over 1 above normal for the month.  The first week saw temperatures well below normal but rather warm conditions followed, causing a rapid melting of the snowpack that remained from winter.

A high of 68F was reached on the 26th and the low for the month of -14F was recorded on the 1st.  A record high minimum temperature of 36F was set on the 23rd.  With a precipitation total of 0.05 inches water equivalent, Fairbanks received only 24% of normal for April, and only a trace of snowfall was recorded.

Tax Day

The sun rose at 6:17 AM AKDT and set at 9:27 PM AKDTm and it is twilight until almost 11 p.m. here on the hill.  So you don't have to burn the midnight oil to finish your taxes if you live here. :)
