I'm Not Valid

Someone asked on the Alaska Living group about pollen counts in Alaska.  I followed a link to Pollen.com and entered 99701 to get the local allergy forecast.  Apparently we don't exist up here near the arctic circle because I got an error message, "The zip code you entered is not valid; please enter another."  I have no other.

The Seven-Hour Barrier

Today we will have over seven hours of possible daylight.  The sun is scheduled to come up at 9:33 a.m. and sunset will be at 4:34 p.m.  That's three hours shorter than the day in Detroit, Michigan.

I'm up way too early to take a photograph.  I'm so far behind now that I should start over and give up on catching up.

At least I can give you the temperature.  At 2:17 a.m., the temperature is -8 F.  Actually it's warmer here, but that's the temperature on my website.  Checking out the Alaska Climate Research Center site the temperature is 15.7 F. and the humidity is 84%.  I double check to make sure this is a Fairbanks report, and it is.  There's also a webcam on this page.  It's dark there, too.

The weather data has not been updated for January yet.  According to Weather Underground, the high temperature yesterday was 3 above and the low was 8 below zero F. [ -16 C and -22 C approx.].  Yesterday was very pretty, and the sunset was gorgeous.  I felt mopey, and I didn't feel much like dragging out the camera, putting on my shoes, to go out in the snow, and take a photo of it.

A World In Turmoil

First of February.... the whole world is wrapped up in the Columbia space shuttle strategy.  I can't imagine that anyone cares what the weather is like in Fairbanks, Alaska.
